A simmering kettle
of three quarters of water
Pinches of powdered
cinnamon, cardamom, cloves
And a tiny piece of smashed
ginger
Bubble, dissolve a
spoon of sugar
Blending with milk
Weaning the darkness of decoction
Blending with milk
Weaning the darkness of decoction
And furrowed brows
Under the gentle
beams of sunlight
Playing hide and
seek
With the dense
clouds
Inching to imprint
the naked sky releasing
Drop
Drop-drop
Drop-drop-drop
Inviting a thin
stream of steam
Rising from the heat
cupped in my palms
In the enveloping silhouette
of the grey sky
To dance to the
gentle gushes of the wind
Shadowing AM and PM
into its fold
For a fleeting
glimpse of the sun
Wrapped into a cosy
hibernation
I stay warm.
