BREAK FREE!

This post has been published by me as a part of the Blog-a-Ton 39; the thirty-ninth edition of the online marathon of Bloggers; where we decide and we write. To be part of the next edition, visit and start following Blog-a-Ton. The theme for the month is "Break"

Break free! My little ones, break free

Break free of the eyes
Seeing you as a pound of flesh
Feasting on your innocence.

Break free of the voices
They know not words, gentle and loving,
Engulfing you in fear.

Break free of the heart
That lick your breathe
Hounding your purity.

Break free of the mind
Degraded by their thoughts
Driving to crush your dreams.

Break free of the hands
Roughed up with inhuman deeds
Waiting to clip your wings.

Break free of the guilt
Rushing to be thrust upon you

Break free of inhibitions
To talk, shout, weep, cry, wail
Trust a shoulder to rest your pain
Hold a hand and call for more
A small scratch, even if it is so
Feel no shame.

Phoenix rose from ashes
So will you
Rise and shine my little ones
Join hands
Chain those dark hours

Your courage shall serve as armour
For those who know no hope.

Break free! My little ones, break free!!

RAPE - The very word is disgusting to think about. I realised that this four letter word is not about the act by itself but it manifests in many ways including eve-teasing, molestation or any other form of sexual assault especially on children, be they boys or girls. These are nothing but undertones about what more menacing an intention could be. There is a tendency to hush down these things, especially where the perpetrators are at home or school which is considered a home away from home for a child and even on the road for fear that there might be a bigger group waiting to attack much for the stony silences of the passers – by; undoubtedly, a sad state of affairs. But it is important to teach children to raise an alarm.
I wonder if this piece is strong enough to raise my concerns about it, perhaps the underlying fears curtail the very thought while mothering a three year old. I could not bring myself to write anything more than this.

  3. Each stanza is very strong. The repeating words add to the poem's strength.
