WHERE DID MY VOICE GO?

Wobbling through the daily grind
Jostling through the hustle – bustle
Meandering through the noisy humdrum
Where did my voice go?

I share not any of my fears
I care not for any polarity
Wake up to eat, drink
Breathe to see through the day
Sleep for the eyes give away
My senses conspire to keep me....alive(?)
Tossed, when a child
Like a toy in the hands of trust and faith
Torn, ripped inside out
I grew with dignity dancing to dirty tunes
Shouting, in a stony silence
Where did my voice go?

I still search for spring
Hoping for a crevice in the wall
For hope to sneak in
Nothing but mist is spread out
Even far beyond the naked eye
Where demons are on prowl
Flowers go in deep slumber
I think of a lullaby
To wake them from their being
As good as dead
But where did my voice go?

I grope for words for a prayer
For the human soul, chained and caged
Trembling lips utter in mute
Where did my voice go?

Child abuse is a prevelant menace. Most of the incidents go unreported for they happen within the four walls that house a family. The very thought is scary when some of them dare to speak out of the years of trauma that they have been through and I find this across the gender.

The poem might not sound very strong to voice my views / feelings on this subject but I could not bring myself to write anything more than this.

  1. Truly, child abuse is prevalent everywhere. Recent cases in India that media keeps on bringing up tell all.
You have very well brought it up through this poem.

  2. Very well written Aki. Its true that child abuse go unreported since they don't whats happening. But once they grew to the world of reality their dreams are shattered.
U had brought some of their feeling in words.

  6. Powerful and heart-breaking. As a victim of childhood abuse this really resonates I always pretended or the benefit of others that I was fine and that nothing was happening.

  10. The sad thing is that children who are abused spend so many years of their adult lives trying to find and grow that voice. But eventually it will be heard! You wrote this so well, Akila. What makes me happy is knowing that your little daughter will grow up with a strong sense of self, because of you.

  11. Thank you for raising your voice for those who can't. You must write it again and again not to perfect the writing but so that the world cannot ignore you!
