DAUGHTER

She arrived
Bundle of joy
Graciously like a swan
Eyes knew not the world
Tiny hands and feet, shivering fingers
Learnt to clasp, clutch, to hold more
To grow out of the cozy maternal warmth
The five senses opened, beginning to give and receive
The tottering tongue dishes out words laced with dribble, that
Keep the vowels and consonants at bay, innocent perseverance persists, as
Rapt attention, requiring just a mention, etches on the clean slate, permanent
Breaking into a gurgling laughter, displaying a neat array of sparkling white grains
Piggy tails, tinkering anklets, flowery frocks, bangles sync with the rhythmic legs riding on toes
Breathing an enchanting fragrance, magnetic, enveloping family, friends, strangers, all the dry and sundry, alike
She listens to learn, I learn to listen; discovering truth, honesty, simplicity in tales and spirit
Who teaches whom? My thoughts meander around the little angel just turned three; ‘Child is the father of man’, indeed!

  2. Oh, there is such joy with a three-year old, isn't there? YOU captured it beautifully in this poem. Love 'the gurgling laughter' and the 'simplicity in tales and spirit.'

  7. the form of building words on top of each other reminded me of teaching and raising children - a task of building with love, patience and lots of years to learn. Beautifully put !!!

  8. I love how this poem builds up the child word by word and comes to the conclusion that it is the mother who is made.

  12. She learns to listen; I listen to learn - the magic of words brought out so magically. Honestly every time I visit ACC I learn one thing from the 3 yr old angel - when u listen listen with all the earnest b'cos she does it and the way she remembers things is amazing. Your angel is once in a life time happening. Let us all enjoy her presence.
